Non Surgical Root Canal

What is a root canal?

At Chicago Style Smiles a root canal isn’t a scary thing; in fact root canals are one of the most common dental procedures performed. Well over 14 million root canals are performed every year in the world. This simple treatment can save your natural teeth and prevent the need of a dental implant or bridge.

At the center of your tooth is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gum

How is a root canal performed?

At Chicago Style Smiles we treat you how we would want to be treated. We do everything we can to make this procedure as comfortable as possible (feel free to bring your favorite music to listen to while we work too).

If you are experiencing pain or swelling a root canal may have to be performed. Dr. Rohan and Dow are properly trained and equipped to eliminate the diseased pulp and get you out of pain and back to normal. The doctors first remove the injured pulp and root canal system by thoroughly cleaning and sealing the root. This therapy involves local anesthetic and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Success rates for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success if unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when complication becomes evident during or after treatment and a referral may be made.

What happens after treatment?

When we have completed your Root Canal, Dr. Rohan and Dow will give you proper post op instructions. Often times when a root canal is completed, follow up treatment is needed to strengthen the tooth. This can involve, but is not limited to, post and core, and crown.
